The Burnaby Caprice synchronized swimming club is off to a fantastic start this season.Burnaby Now Link Caprice swimmers Michelle Bowes and Farren McDonald placed first in the Tier 4 duet at a Lower Mainland regional meet in February. Kali Dennis and Sofya Reger were the runners-up in the Tier 5 duet. Burnaby's three competitive swim teams all placed first in their respective divisions at the regional meet. The Tier 1 team, coached by Melinda Markser, won its division performing a soldier theme, while the Tier 2 team, coached by Lindsay Allen, dazzled the crowd with its rendition of Mamma Mia. Leona Hamm's Tier 4 team also swam a flawless routine called Chicago. Caprice swimmers also had solid results in individual figures and solo events. Valerie Lang won the Tier 3 final with a total score of 56.903. Martina Smirnova was third. In Tier 4, McDonald took second place with a 56.951 final score. Bowes placed fourth and Sarah McTeer came seventh. Dennis was third overall in the Tier 5 final and fourth in the preliminary championship solo, placing ahead of teammates Reger and Chantice Hamm. Lucia Sum won the 13-and-over Tier 2 figures, while Corina Hojan and Alina Arefyeva placed sixth and seventh respectively. Maura Blackburn was 10th. Rene Bell won bronze in the younger age group. Nicole Paquette was sixth and Nicole Gingrich placed seventh. In Tier 1, Shannon Pflueger was third in the 13-and-over figures. Helena Diao was fifth and Keb Dennis sixth. Eli Hamm finished eighth. Kristina Popora came third in the 12-and-under figures, ahead of Caprice clubmates Alyssa Jiang and Charlis Hamm.
